Assessing a Nation’s R&D Pipeline

Apio recently completed a project to assess the commercialization potential of Jamaica’s R&D pipeline. The assessment required a 10-year retrospective study of all projects funded at four major Jamaican research institutions. Projects were examined to determine stage of research, from basic to translational and applied, and then analyzed to assess potential commercial viability.

The results of the study, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, validated Jamaica’s emerging capacity to conduct commercially viable research and development activities and the need to create a translational research gap fund.
