ELLEN PURPUS, PHD

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Ellen serves as a managing director for APIOiX and as a freelance consultant in technology transfer and biomedical writing. Academic innovation transfer and management have been her profession for twenty-five years and she has led technology transfer programs at a variety of institutions including private research institutions and major universities. Before joining APIOiX, she served as Assistant Vice-President for Enterprise and Innovation at University of Nevada, Reno. Prior to that she was director of technology transfer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Purpus specializes in the protection and commercialization of discoveries. She is a long-time faculty member for the AUTM (Association of University Technology Managers) Essentials of Academic Licensing course and is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and other organizations working to advance scientific research.

Purpus earned her doctorate in pathology and cell biology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pa. and completed a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in experimental immunology at the National Cancer Institute. She was the first non-attorney intern at the NIH Office of Technology Transfer in Bethesda, MD.
